Proper Maintenance for the Giclee Print

Author: Ken Wilson

Art is a passion to many people, to the extent that they even invest enormous sums of money in original artworks. If you’re among those who enjoy a beautiful piece and would like to have it in your home but the price tag is not within your budget limit, purchasing art prints is the perfect solution. High quality canvas prints are valuable investments and will represent a beautiful addition to any home. You can select an art print to match existing home decorations or a number of prints to bring unity in the style of your home. At riteart.com you can select a beautiful art print from our many styles, framed or unframed.

The so-called giclee prints are among the most popular and good looking art prints that a person could own. These prints are made by using a state-of-the-art ink-jet printing technique. The result of the printing process is very similar to a canvas painted by an artist. The print’s unique aspect is the result of tiny spurts of ink that are mixed and combined on the surface of the print. The ink pattern is constantly under control to ensure that the details are completed to perfection. With this technique, the print isn’t limited to a certain palette of colors or combination of paint – the possibilities are practically endless and the result is a fantastic looking print with astonishing shades and colors.

If you’ve already purchased one or several art prints, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First of all, framing your print is a very important part of making sure it is being exploited to its full potential. It is highly recommended that you have your print professionally framed. The canvas is usually pretty fragile so framing the print in an unprofessional way can lead to seriously damaging it. The same recommendation goes for any cleaning and repair work – let professionals handle it if you don’t want to have any unpleasant surprises. Also, using glass for the framing is a very good idea, as it helps protect the print from any harmful factors.

Taking good care of your art prints is very important, especially if you want to sell them after a while. The value of a quality print will increase over time, especially if it is maintained properly. The giclee prints are heat sensitive and need to be kept at temperatures of around 60 degrees all year round if you want to prevent ink degradation. Intense sunlight can also have damaging effects on these prints so it is best to place them in areas where the sun exposure is low. Needless to say, placing a print in the bathroom might lead to it deteriorating.

High quality art prints are excellent decorative items in any home and a real treat for those who enjoy art. Giclee prints have beautiful posture and highly resemble the texture of hand-made paintings. Whenever purchasing a fine art print you should not neglect the framing aspect and always provide proper maintenance. Riteart.com offers a wide variety of prints and professional framing services.

All About Giclee Prints In Relation To Photos On Canvas

Author: Conrad McKee

The earliest giclee prints were done in 1989 using the Iris Graphics models 3024 and 3047 continuous inkjet printers, a company currently owned by Hewlett-Packard. This was achieved after much experimentation and today it is one of the most widely used method of putting photos on canvas. Giclee is simply a sophisticated way of inkjet printing, which merges the utility of using many professional grades format printers with those archival pigment inks, paper and canvas of acid free watercolor. The process can also be done on other mediums such as fine art and photo-based paper, but canvas is the favorite medium for many because of its many advantages. Loosely translated from French, it means spray or a spurt of liquid and they are today created typically using professional 8-color to 12-color ink-jet printers. The printers used for giclee prints use the CMYK color process but may also have multiple cartridges.

There are many reasons why giclee prints are so popular today and these include the fact that the process produces very high quality and better color accuracy prints compared to its competitors, the technology is available in all corners of the world and specialized printers by such companies as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard have been made which makes them cheaper because of the competition between the companies, the companies printing on photo canvas have emerged everywhere resulting in reduced costs and if you are interested in selling the pictures you make, then you can test market your art before doing mass production because it is relatively easy and cheap to reproduce art work once it is digitally archived. Other reasons for the popularity are the fact that very little time is used before you get the final product and that you are able to edit your photo resulting in final products that are of higher quality than even the original sample. You should note that it is your right to approve previews and you should not pay before you get the final product and you are satisfied with your work. Since no screen or other mechanical devices are used, there are no visible dot screen patterns and this means that the image maintains all the tonalities and hues of the original painting.

Apart from printing on photo canvas, other applications are reproductions of original two-dimensional artwork or computer generated work. You can even take your child’s drawing and re-produce it using this method for posterity. You should note that charging is per meter and so if you want a very small picture, it might not be economical because most printers have a minimum order of one meter and so canvas you had paid for will be left unused.

Putting photos on canvas using this method can earn you a lot of money because New York City is growing into an attraction for investors interested in photos made using this method. This is growing to other places, but your work has to be of very high quality and mostly done by a well-known artist. Get your self a photo canvas and it will add aesthetic value to your wall and your house.

Giclee Printing

Author: James Davenport

The French word “Giclee” was invented to name the process of fine arts on Iris printers, done through an ink jet printing method from a digital source. This word was mainly taken from the French word “le gicleur” which means “nozzle”. To be more specific the word “glicer” means “to spurt” or “spray” through a nozzle. The word giclee was started by a print maker Jack Duganne in 1991. He was a print maker and used to work in a field for representing any kind of ink jet print which is used as fine arts. Giclee prints are often used in print shops and in galleries.

Origin of giclee prints:

Before the use of giclee printing, the methods of ink jet technology were used as an alternative option to serigraphy and lithography. Afterward, the word giclee was invented to describe the methods of digital prints used as fine arts. It was first created on the Iris graphics in the early 1990s with the help of continuous ink jet printers. Iris printers were initially used for producing the prepress proofs from the digital files for the job of colour matching. Gradually, giclee printing developed and became very popular among the publishers, artists, galleries and photographers for the fine art reproductions. Finally, in 2001 the GPA (Giclee Printers association) was formed where a clear distinction was made between a high quality giclee print and lower quality ink jet print. As the demand of art buyers purchasing high quality prints have increased, the concept of giclee print became more popular.

Today’s giclee technology:

Giclee printing has become a big hit among every photographer and artists. This type of printing is mainly used to make reproductions of the original artworks and photographs. This is more expensive than the old process of lithography which was traditionally used to get such reproductions. To get better results than lithography prints, high end archival inks are used. In this type of printing, there is a dot pattern which is not visible to the naked eyes. And its colors are very bright and fade resistant.

Giclee is a technique used on various types of media. For example – canvas, archival adhesive paper, water color paper, etc. The depth of giclee’s prints and its range of colors are far better than those of lithography prints. It has got a higher resolution than any other print. The secret behind this success is the combination of Archival Paper and Archival Pigment Inks, which makes light fastness for 100 years and can be extended up to 200 years in perfect lighting conditions.

Nowadays, whether you’re interested in photography or scrapbooking or creating your own reproductions, you can easily get the art materials in cut sheets available on Internet. This type of print is more popular in today’s world because it provides depth and luminosity which represents the original work better than any other modern printing technique. Because of all these reasons, the concept of giclee printing is very popular among all the professional artists.
