In the province of British Columbia, the first Monday of August is known as British Columbia Day, BC Day or B.C. Day. BC Day is a statutory holiday in British Columbia and many people have a day off work. The British Columbia Day Act was first introduced to the Legislative Assembly in 1974. The objective of the Bill was to create a statutory holiday on the first Monday in August to recognize the pioneers in the province and the act gained royal assent in 1996. BC Day gives British Columbians the chance to celebrate their achievements and relax with friends and family members.
